The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons when she was a teenager in America (which is known as Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the child-prodigy class. But for a person with Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family members, they had innate talents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin in Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also had shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen loved playing rough sporting games in her youth and was a pro in athletics. The passion for sports was matched by the natural ability to perform. She won almost all Feis Award for Theater and Drama the country could provide. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dreams of classical theater as well as singing opera.
